Violinist Aaron Berofsky returns to play the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the HSO. The orchestra will also perform the beautiful Brahms Symphony No. 3 and a piece called Alone Together by Wineglass.

Young Artists Competition Public Recital

Please note the new date!** On January 27, 2024, at 1:00 PM, witness the musical brilliance of eleven high school students competing in the Holland Symphony Orchestra’s Norbert Mueller Young Artist Competition/Recital. Admission is free. In a recital format, audience members can enjoy the students' accomplished performances. Judges will select three winners, awarding prizes from $500 to $150. The competition, a unique showcase of young talent from various schools playing diverse instruments, is underwritten by an endowment from the legacy of Norbert Mueller, a former Chicago Symphony violinist and advocate for young musicians. The Holland Symphony Orchestra proudly honors Mueller's legacy with this special event.

Surprise Symphony

This concert showcases a diverse selection of pieces, opening with Frederick Delius's enchanting Two Pieces for Small Orchestra, featuring the evocative "On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring" and the serene "Summer Night on the River." William Grant Still's Danzas de Panama follows, offering a rhythmic journey through various Panamanian dances. The Oboe Concerto, Op. 45 by Eugene Goosens, features the skillful performance of Sarah Southard on the oboe. After the intermission, the audience will be treated to Franz Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 94 in G Major, "Surprise," exploring a range of emotions through its dynamic movements. Overall, the concert provides a rich tapestry of musical styles and moods, captivating the audience with each composition.
