Holland Symphony Orchestra is dedicated to educational and outreach programs for adults and children alike, not just as listeners, but also as participants.
Currently, the Holland Symphony sponsors:
- Holland Symphony Youth Orchestras comprised of:
- Holland Area Junior Strings – non-auditioned, beginning string orchestra (students with at least one year of experience)
- Holland Area Concert Strings – intermediate group of more advanced strings
- Holland Area Youth Orchestra – auditioned, high school/middle school age, full orchestra
- Intern Program for youth orchestra members to audition for string positions in Holland Symphony
- Community Strings Orchestra (fall, winter, spring)
- Young Artist competition for area high school musicians; First prize $500, second prize $250; third prize $150
- Classical Chat – an informal program presented by our Music Director prior to the four Classical Concerts at Freedom Village Retirement Home; Freedom Village 6th floor at 3:00pm Thursdays
- Herrick District Library Concert Series for young children and families.
- Refers HSO musical ensembles for special events; contact HSO office
- Middle/High School Tutors for sectionals, small groups.
- List of available instrumental music teachers for private lessons; contact HSO office
- Offers presentations for musical enhancement and advocacy of orchestral music
- Offers community members an opportunity to volunteer and usher at concerts. Join us by calling the HSO office at 616-796-6780.
