Holland Symphony Orchestra is dedicated to educational and outreach programs for adults and children alike, not just as listeners, but also as participants.
Currently, the Holland Symphony sponsors:
- Holland Symphony Youth Orchestras comprised of:
- Holland Area Junior Strings – non-auditioned, beginning string orchestra (students with at least one year of experience)
- Holland Area Concert Strings – intermediate group of more advanced strings
- Holland Area Youth Orchestra – auditioned, high school/middle school age, full orchestra
- “The Music in Me” Camp – classes for pre-school students
- Intern Program for youth orchestra members to audition for string positions in Holland Symphony
- New Horizons String Orchestra (fall and spring)
- Chamber Music Seminar for youth orchestra students as well as pre-formed school ensembles (March to May )
- Annual concerto competition for area high school musicians; First prize: $500 plus an HSO Family Concert performance; second prize $250; third prize $150
- Classics Discovery Concert, a concert to discover new ways to experience an orchestra with added features and collaborations.
- Classical Chat – an informal program presented by our Music Director prior to the four Classical Concerts at Freedom Village Retirement Home; Freedom Village 6th floor at 3:00pm Thursdays
- Pre-concert talks will be in video form for the 2021-2022 season. Videos will be posted on the HSO website one week ahead of the four classics concerts.
- Refers HSO musical ensembles for special events; contact HSO office
- Refers instrumental music teachers for private lessons; contact HSO office
- Offers presentations for musical enhancement and advocacy of orchestral music
- Offers community members an opportunity to volunteer and usher through The League of Holland Symphony, a committee of the Holland Symphony. Join us by calling the HSO office at 616-796-6780.
